Mission:
VFY S1, E3: The Tianlong Incident
Location: Port Royale
Timeline: March 24, 2397, 0900 Hrs
It’s a fine looking ship. That’s what he’d told Martinez when asked about the Tianlong. The CO had put him on the spot and it was the first thing that came to mind. Now, standing at a viewport with his arms folded and looking out at the ship, his opinion was rather different.
“She’s an ugly pig.”
Xander glanced around at the source of the voice before turning back to the viewport. He was surprised to find Sebastian Jones on the station, even more surprised to find him back in uniform but he was able to school his features so that he seemed thoroughly unsurprised and uninterested.
“She certainly is.” The Tianlong was a Typhon-class carrier and had none of the beautiful lines and curves of most other Starfleet vessels. She was little more than a flying box. But she was capable of carrying more fighters than most ships and to Xander that made her more valuable than a beautiful ship.
He turned to face Lieutenant Jones. “Last I heard you were working as Counsel on some Cardassian backwater. What brings you to Port Royale,” he paused for a beat, “and in uniform no less?”
“Tensions in the region have been on the rise.” The Englishman explained. “I thought that I could be of more use to the Federation as a Diplomatic Officer out here.” Sebastian quickly added, “And Ventani II is not a ‘backwater’. It’s the home of the man considered the Father of the Cardassian Union.”
At that moment they were joined by Chief Wilson. “Sebastian!” His mock enthusiasm for Jones’ appearance brought a smile to Xander’s lips. “What’s a wanker like you doing in a place like this?”
Sebastian forced a very fake smile on his face. “What can I tell you Henry? I’m drawn to dickheads like you.” He looked back over at Xander, his fake smile gone. “Alexander. Good to see you again.” With that he walked off, leaving the CAG and his Deck Chief alone.
“Remind me again why you two hate each other?” Xander asked as they turned towards the viewport.
Wilson shook his head in disbelief. “How about you remind me why you don’t? That guy tried to Court Martial you, X. How can you act like that didn’t happen?”
“He was just doing his job.” Xander shrugged. “I can’t hold that against him. Plus, I was acquitted so there’s that.”
The two friends stood silently for a few minutes, gazing out the viewport at the Typhon-class carrier. It was Chief Wilson who broke the silence. “She’s an ugly motherf@%ker.”
Xander nodded in agreement. “Yes, she is. And she’s going to be home for the 14th TAW.” He let that sink in for a moment. “There are four Galaxy-class ships due over the course of today with the rest of our pilots and support staff. Once you have enough people, I want you to get over there and start preparing the ground for the 14th’s arrival.”
“You got it, CAG.” Wilson acknowledged. “How soon do you plan to move the Wing off the planet and onto the carrier?”
That was an easy question and the answer was immediate, “I want Lieutenant Commander Enam and his Wing embarked onboard the Tianlong by the end of tomorrow. Make sure she’s ready for them.”
Wilson nodded, “Aye sir.” He strode off to start working on preparations. Xander needed to brief his Wing Commander’s ahead of the arrival of the rest of their pilots.
