Mission:
S9, E2: Deals Made In Shadows
Location: Messhall Starbase Teneran
Timeline: Current
Nadin, holding his cup of coffee in both hands, raised slightly off the table, his eyes gazing at the light brown liquid as the steam rose from it, was sitting in the mess hall on Starbase Teneran.
He was taking a short but much-needed break from his work on warp core improvements. He had been examining various cores used on multiple classes of Starfleet vessels. He aimed to develop a core that could be used on multiple vessels with both high efficiency, speed and lower maintenance.
Stirring his coffee, watching the liquid swirl in the cup, similar to the motion of matter/antimatter particles in a warp core found on Intrepid-class starships, one of the most efficient warp drives designed in the 24th century, and proven extremely resilient thanks to USS Voyager's Delta Quadrant extended stay.
He glanced around the sparsely occupied room. He was the only one sitting on his own. He would mind some company.
Mira walked in, seeing the starbase partially empty, but for a few people. She noticed a gentleman sitting by himself; she walked over to him. "Is this seat taken? If not, do you mind me sitting with you?" Mira said with her lunch and soda from the replicator.
She took her earring off because she knew it wasn't allowed in Starfleet earlier.
"Absolutely. Please take a seat. I was hoping for some company. " Nadin replied.
Mira smiled kindly. Thank you. I'm the new security on the block, and I thought I'd make my introductions," Mira said. Mira pulled out her arm to get his introduction. "I'm Ltjg Mira Leeja, and you are?" she said kindly. She also sat down after getting his introduction.
"I'm Ltjg Nadin Bellur, Warp Core Specialist. Nice to meet you. May I call you Mira? " He asked.
Mira smiled. "Sure, if I can call you Nadin?" she smiled as she sat down with her meal. "I'm in Security, my first day." Mira also
said. "I just got here by shuttle," she also said.
"Of course you can. Most people do, but some call me Bellur or Bell for short."
Mira sat down. "Then I will call you Bell, if that's ok?" Mira smiled as she started eating her meal.
"Sure, no problem. What are you eating?" He asked.
Mira looked at Bell. "Oh, just a salad." She said, I don't like to eat a lot."Mira Said.
"Ok. I have a keen interest in the cuisine of other worlds. So, nothing interesting about your salad? " he asked.
"My Salad is a Bajoran salad; I've been liking these. My drink is a Bajoran tea," she said with a sigh.
"Are you ok? I could help notice that long sigh. " Nadin asked.
"I'm fine. When you said you wanted to try cuisines from other worlds, you can try them through the replicator, or visit the world yourself, " she smiled. "I wouldn't mind trying other cuisines from other worlds myself," She smiled. "But not Klingon."
She chuckled.
"I have tried some Klingon food. It's definitely not for everyone. The beverages are easier to handle, except maybe Chech'tluth, a very- and I emphasise that- potent alcoholic drink. The dam thing comes with a vapour coming off it when poured. Romulan ale is banned in the Federation, and yet this stuff isn't. Crazy. "
Mira nodded as she listened to Bell. "I agree there, about Romulan ale." Mira smiled.
"I noticed you are not wearing the traditional Bajoran earring. I saw you took it off. I know there are regulations, but surely something that has cultural significance would be exempt."
Mira nodded. "I was told to take it off due to regulations," she said as she ate her Bajoran salad. "I put it on when I'm off duty," she also said.
" I've always liked Bajoran earrings. They are very beautiful and delicate. Unlike earrings worn by Trill women, which rarely have a meaning except for when given by someone as a gift, Bajoran earrings are very symbolic. "
Mira smiled as she looked around the room before putting her Bajoran earring on. You are right; they are symbolic," she said, pointing the earring at Bell. "Don't tell anyone I put it on." She chuckled as she enjoyed her Bajoran salad, almost finishing it.
"You're the first guy I met, Bell, and you look like a pretty great guy."Mira smiled.
" Well, I prefer it if you wear the earring; it's both traditional, and you look lovely wearing it."
Mira nodded,"OK, around you I will wear it around you. But don't forget I have to take it off while on duty." Mira explained.
Mira continued to eat her salad with Bell. "So you single yourself, like I am, if you don't mind me asking." Mira winked at Bell.
Mira was also enjoying her Bajoran tea as well.
He smiled. "Yes, I'm single. I don't mind you asking at all. "
Mira smiled warmly. "That's good ." I'm looking for a good guy to be with and share my life with," she said with a wink.
"I am looking for a woman who can understand me, appreciate me, and make me laugh."
Mira looked at him and chuckled, "I'm the same way."I need a man who would make me happy and appreciate me for
who I am," she smiled. "I hope that's you." She really liked his attitude.
" It could well be. Only one way to find out." Nadin replied.
Mira smiled. "That sounds like a very good idea," she said, smiling warmly.
"So, can I take you out on a date?" He asked straight out, no messing, no stalling.
"Sure, you can," she said, smiling warmly. "Maybe I can ask you a favor: help me with my quarters, please."
She also smiled warmly.
"Of course. What help do you actually need?
"I need help moving in I got some plants home from Bajor, I like to Decorate with, plus some paintings from home" Mira said.
"Oh sure, yeah. I can help you with that. You show me where you want things and I will help. "
Mira showed him the way to her quarters so they can get started, decorating.
