VFY S1, E2: Klingon Security
Location: Port Royale, Various
Timeline: January 18, 2397, 1650 Hrs
Lieutenant Commander Alexander Mitchell was beamed up to flight operations. Avril waited by the transporter to greet him. "Welcome to Port Royale sir, Commodore Martinez, apologizes for not being able to meet with you, right away. He wants to schedule a 0800 appointment with you tomorrow." Avril said, with a warm smile on her face, looking at the new CAG.
Xander was taken aback. He'd been expecting to be beamed into on of the station's Transporter Rooms, not straight into Flight Operations. Stepping down off the transporter pad he extended a hand, "Thank you, Lieutenant Taylor." Xander had taken a few minutes to familiarise himself with the station's senior officers and he was glad of it.
Avril shook his hand in response, but did not say anything. She was happy to see the CAG onboard. They needed his services right away. This area of space was very hostile, and they needed combat patrols around the station on a 24 hour basis.
Xander motioned to Chief Wilson. "This is Chief Petty Officer Wilson, my Deck Chief."
"Pleasure to meet you Chief." Avril said, as she paused for a moment and went on. "So happy you have arrived, there is a lot of work to be done, but if you will follow me, I will show you to your quarters Sir, and then your office." Avril said, feeling like a messenger girl for Commodore Martinez. She knew how busy he was. And this was a good chance for her to meet more of the senior staff. Avril looked to her assistant, to signal it was now her watch. Luckily Avril was done for the day, so after getting Commander Mitchell settled in, she could meet up with her boyfriend. They started to head for the turbolift.
"How long have you been onboard?" He asked as they walked out of Flight Operations.
"I arrived on the station, a couple of days ago." Avril said as they started to go down the turbolift to his quarters. "However, today is my first day on the assignment, checked in with the Commodore earlier today. So what brings you to the station? Advancement? Fleaing something or wanted some adventure?" Avril asked, unofficially she was asking a lot of people. She was curious if she was the only one who choose this assignment for advancement.
Xander didn't answer her question. His reason for requesting this assignment was none of her concern. Instead he replied with a question of his own, keeping the topic focused on business. "What can you tell me about the situation out here?"
Avril thought it was a little rude, he ignored her question? Was he hiding something, or did he simply not want to talk about his reasons for joining. She brushed off the comment, and heard what he had to say. "The situation is stable for the moment, some of the delegates have arrived. We are expecting more delegates tomorrow, and we expecting more ships coming in. Till things settle down, the Commodore wants six ships on rotation around the station at all times."
"Six will be the minimum number of fighters flying CAP at any one time, possibly more. I won't know for sure until I get to work and confer with the Squadron COs." He told her.
"That should make the Commodore, just make sure your pilots submit their flight plan with flight ops. I just need the basics, time out, time in, and general area they should be in. Sensors can track the rest." Avril said, as they continued to walk towards his quarters.
"This isn't my first rodeo, Lieutenant." Xander told her. "But rest assured my pilots will comply with Flight Ops regulations."
"Happy to hear that sir." She said, as they started to approach his door. "Here we are sir." She said, with a grin. But already thinking of the other things she needed to do today. She felt that she had been running around, trying to play catch up.
Xander punched in his access code and the door parted. "Well thanks for the escort, Lieutenant. I won't keep you from your duties any longer." He was eager to get changed out of the restrictive standard duty uniform that he'd worn over and pull on his flight suit.
"Have a good night sir." Said Avril, as she started to walk away and head back to flight operations. She still had a lot of work todo, and a replicator with her name on it. She was hungry. The scene starts to fade.
Turning his attention to Chief Petty Officer Wilson, who had accompanied them silently, Xander added, "I'll see you on the Flight Deck in thirty." With that he entered his new home and immediately began shedding himself of the layers of his duty uniform. The scene fades.
