VFY S1, E3: The Tianlong Incident
Location: Starfleet Academy, Earth
Timeline: March 23, 2397, 1600 Hrs
Location: Starfleet Academy, Transitions Barracks
Alexander Beck walked into his quarters. He had just finished his last day as an instructor at the survival school. His bags were packed, and he turned his office over to his replacement.
"Incoming Call. " his communications console chirped. He sat at his desk. The face of his now ex-wife appeared.
"Fiona. To what do I owe the pleasure? " he asked in his most sarcastic voice.
"I heard you've requested a deep space assignment. " she said.
"I have. " he said, evenly. He didn't want to lose his temper, even though she deserved it. Despite all she had done to him, he still held a soft spot. She was, after all, the mother of his child.
"Why? " she asked.
"Why do you think, Fi? Did you think I would be able to stay? " he asked.
"I would think that Caden would be your top priority. " she said.
"Don't lecture me about our son, Fiona. Keep him out of this. You don't get to use him to keep me here so you can humiliate me even more than you already have. When he's old enough I'll explain to him why I left. And I do get visitation rights. I'll see him every chance I can. " said Alex, barely keeping his temper in check.
"On a deep space assignment. Good luck getting judge to agree to that." Fiona said to him, she knew that was true. Because her lawyer told her so. "Only way you get visitation rights is if you are near our child, and you dont want me to come to Port Royale, and you won't stay on Earth so you really fucked up your options of getting any visitation rights." Fiona said with a big grin on her face.
"Cheated on Fi, and now you want to torture me with this bull shit, I am so glad that I am going to Port Royale, several million light years away from you." Alexander said, with a smirk on his face.
"Do you think I had an affair to torture you? Do you really think I'm that heartless? " she asked. He could see she was on the verge of tears. He didn't buy it for a second. He started clapping, slowly.
"Bravo. Good performance. I'm not buying it. I don't care why you did what you did. I care that you did it. Period. Your reasons don't mean anything. It happened. You don't get to play the victim. Go cry to your boyfriend. But know this. If he thinks he's going to replace me in Caden's life, he'd better reconsider that. He can be his friend, his stepfather if you can actually commit to that. But he's not Caden's father. That's my job. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a transport to catch. " he said, ending the transmission. He'd call Caden before the transport left, but he needed to cool off first.
Location: San Francisco, Earth O'Malley's Restaurant
Fiona could not believe what had just happened. Alexander Beck basically just told her, that he wanted nothing to do with his son. She might have cheated, but he was a coward and an asshole. She had no idea what she had seen in him.
Sure he talked a good game, but it was clear that he was rotten to the core. Now she had to raise her son alone. She was no longer going to say that they had a son together. He was worthless, and would be known forever as a deadbeat father. She had no doubt that he would fail in the Marine Corps, because he already failed as a father.
