Mission:
VFY S1, E3: The Tianlong Incident
Location: Port Royale, Various
Timeline: March 23, 2397, 1515 Hrs
Location: Port Royale CO's Ready Room
Domingo was still trying to wrap his head around the news. He was call with Starfleet Command, and they informed him they were placing him in command of a Task Force. He would be the Task Force Commander of a small fleet. He was surprised that Starfleet was dedicating a lot of resources to this sector of space. He wondered if Prenar's concerns were most justified, than he gave him credit for. He shook his head, and told himself as he saw his reflection in the window, as he looked into the darkness of space. You got command, cause you proved yourself. You have been a task force executive officer for a couple of years.
Things that were not making sense before, were now suddenly making sense. Like the appointment of the fleet strategic operations officer. He received her request to transfer to the USS Firebrand, to be first officer. Someone at Starfleet Command wanted her pulled and placed on the Fire Brand, however Domingo managed to get her transfer placed on hold for a temporary duty assignment (TAD) on Starbase Port Royale. He needed her a little bit longer. So the Firebrand was going to come to Port Royale Station to pick her up.
Domingo was impressed with her service record, particularly with her ability to track ship movements, shift through intelligence reports, and gather enough information, to help Starfleet place starships in strategic locations. He wondered if she had these skills prior to her symbiont. Or if this was a byproduct of the symbiont. Starfleet command place her on this station, and after reading her file, he was glad. She had the skills, when shifting through her file, he noticed more recently that she should have been promoted to Commanding Officer of a ship, not a Fleet Divisional Department.
He started to look more closely at her command structure, and reviews. They were excellent. He was not sure, why she was not being offered a command of a starship, the only thing that made sense to him, was that Starfleet Command needed her skills, now with the True Way, New Maquis in the area. Starfleet would need to strategically place assets in key areas, and Commander Tias had a gift in this particular field. Was not really fair to her, but it was clear that Starfleet had made up there mind.
=^=Comm..Admiral, our sensors are picking up a huge ship inbound a high warp!=^= came a frantic call from his Flight Ops officer. =^=Specifications unknown, but it carries a Federation registry and IFF. It's not slowing down, Sir!=^=
Domingo was a little concerned, when he heard the news of a federation ship coming in fast. He tapped on his combadge. "On my way." Domingo said, as he did a sight to sight transport to flight operations. "Have we attempted to hail the vessel?" Domingo asked in a questionable tone. It did not take him long to beam up to flight operations. Typically a flag officer, would not abuse this, however this unidentified vessel had sparked his attention.
"We've tried sir." Said the flight ops officer.
"Go to yellow alert," Domingo said, hoping there was just something wrong with the communications channel. He waited for the ship to come into range. Domingo walked over to the communications station. "Hail them again," Domingo said, he told himself if they did not answer this hail, he would ask one more time with a hostile challenge.
=^= This is G-Bird OTG calling from the USS Tianlong. You got a docking berth? We're coming in hot!=^=
A massive ship bristling with weapons dropped out of warp dangerously close to the station and shut down the engines before it turned sideways, then used it's thrusters to come in at a slower rate of two hundred meters a second.
Domingo could not believe what he was seeing, as he saw the massive carrier coming directly towards the shields. He called out, "All available power to the forward array." He said, hoping if they impacted, the damage would be to the shields more than the structure. His heart started to accelerate, as he watched the carrier do an interesting narrow breaking maneuver. He had never seen a carrier do that before.
The shields transfer rate was very slow, if they had impacted, it would have done significant damage to the station. Th coms channel could hear a faint transmission. "Play it again." Domingo ordered, as he tried to calm down. His adrenaline spiked, and so did his heart rate. That was a very intense moment.
=^= ***** ** G-Bird *** calling from ****** Tianlong. *** got a ******* berth? *** coming in hot!=^=
"Clear that up." Domingo ordered, waiting for communications to clear up the signal and play it back again. He was grateful the ship managed to avoid hitting the station. Now he wondered what happened to the vessel.
=^= This is G-Bird OTG calling from the USS Tianlong. You got a docking berth? We're coming in hot!=^=
Communications had tried to open a visual link. There was delay in the feed. Domingo was not sure if anyone on the ship could see him. But he started his broadcast. "This is Starbase Port Royale, we have an open berth, what happened Tianlong?" Domingo asked with a look of confusion on his face. Where did the ship come from, and why did they choose his station he wondered.
A rainbow haired young woman in an outfit that definitely wasn't Starfleet appeared on screen. "Mind giving me the clearance?" she asked, her eyes glued on something out of visual as the gigantic ship continued to get closer by the second.
"Drop the shields and clear the ship for docking." Domingo said, as he looked at the rainbow haired woman. He had no idea who she was, however her tone was sincere. The flight operations guys started to work on getting her clearance to dock. "Who are you?" Domingo asked, thinking she was to young to be a captain. The operations guys placed on a monitor screen, coordinates for her to dock at. They did not want to interrupt Domingo.
"Khan of Khansolidated Pilot Express," the woman responded. "Delivering the USS Tinalong and passengers." She swung the ship around and looked like she was going to smash it into the station but cleared it at the last second before establishing a lock with dock. "We are cleared to disembark," she told someone before she got up and walked off screen.
"Hello Miss Kahn, you still there?" Domingo asked, wondering where she went. She nearly had given him a heart attack, with her stunt. Was it intentional, was there something wrong with the ship? He needed more answers. Domingo was not use to people walking off the monitor.
A frazzled looked Trill woman in a Starfleet red uniform showed up with the pips of a Commander on her collar. "Rear Admiral Martinez?" she asked as she gathered her wits. "I'm Commander Holle Tias, requesting permission to come aboard, Sir. There's other personnel here with me."
"News travels fast, but its Commodore till I have my promotion ceremony, tomorrow night." Domingo said, as he was still in shock over the news of becoming Task Force Commanding Officer. He wondered who the rainbow hair girl Miss Kahn, was and why she left the screen so suddenly. But at least now he was talking to Starfleet officer. "Granted Commander, report to my ready room as soon you arrive, we have a few things to discuss."
"My apologies, Si..." Holle started to say before an alarm klaxon went off and she stepped aside for a minute. "She did what?!" came her voice before she stepped back into view. "Apologies again, Sir," she said. "Miss Khan just blew the shuttle bay so her ship could exit."
An ops officer brought up a split screen of a battered looking small freighter pulling away from the Tianlong before accelerating to warp dangerously close to the station.
Domingo was mildly impressed but mostly annoyed. Who was this Miss Khan person. Now she had damaged a federation starship, came close to wrecking a carrier. She needed to answer a few question. He wondered why she was in a hurry to leave so fast. Why was she running? "When you get to the station, I want all the information you have on this Miss Khan lady. First you have a meeting with my first officer Captain Prenar, afterward's report to me." He said with an annoyed look on his face. He noticed that Kahn had vanished from sensors.
"Aye, Sir," Holle said. "I'll be there soon. Tias out."
