Lieutenant Beatrix sat in the Lounge of the New Orleans Class starship staring out the window at the stars. She had come to the lounge for some relaxation before she reported for duty aboard her new post: Port Royale. This may have been her second tour of duty in Starfleet in her long lifetime, but she was no less nervous now than she was when she first set foot aboard a Starship over 80 years ago.

It was hard to believe that it had been that long since she was a child. Back then the galaxy seemed new and exciting, like a daily adventure that was at her fingertips. Her parents had been stricter than most El-Aurian parents and had held her back from some of the fun her people were known for. With the destruction of their homeworld at the hands of the Borg they had done more than enough to clip her wings and keep her from flying. Though the galaxy itself would clip her wings when she met a wily Vulcan and had her first child, a daughter named J'nea. That had pulled her away from the stars and to more stable locations like a Starbase.

Though she loved living on Starbases. They had amazing stories alone and she loved being part of all the adventures that they undertook. That led her to accepting this new position aboard Port Royale, that and wanting to strike out on her own again. Her husband, Danheel, had been the priority and then their son together had been their new priority. Her career had stalled during that time - not like when she went into civilian service - but enough that she knew this assignment would make or break her career. She wanted to head Starfleet Medical and her work here would be critical to achieving that goal.

But she would need people to do it. Sitting in the Lounge she could tell that many of these people were going to be assigned to Port Royale with her. She listened to what they had to say, one of her greatest attributes, and sipped her Altair Water while they talked. Most of them had the general mundane conversations one would expect, some had some spicy things to say, but it was surprisingly routine. They were only a few minutes from arrival and she was about to return to her quarters to pack when she heard a voice she never expected.

The young voice was behind her at a table full of others. Her ears heard, again, a pointless conversation, but her brain had logged it for further thought. Not trying to be obvious she ordered another water and kept listening, somewhat drawn by what was being said. The waiter had brought her replacement drink and she was, luckily, able to get a glance. She couldn't believe who she saw sitting there. This was not a good omen.

Pushing the drink away she quickly rose to her feet and started for the door, trying to keep things from being so obvious. She had to leave and she had to leave quickly. She immediately rethought everything that was going on and if this was a good idea at all. Glancing back at the figure sitting there she had to be sure, was she right? Was that who she thought it was?

She was. She knew. Heading back to her cabin as quickly as she could she got her things ready and got ready to go aboard Port Royale hoping beyond hope that he wasn't coming along for the ride...
