"Ms Sorrin thank you for joining me." Carol said that she sat at her desk. Directly across from her was Vira Sorrin, her new Chief Logistic Operations Officer. Carol looked her up and down for a brief moment. She thought to herself, you poor girl you don't know what you just got yourself into. Supplying a station especially when she just became operational can be challenging for any senior experience officer, however Vira, the straight out of the academy and new. She hopes she was ready for this.
Vira was a little nervous as she entered the room. "Ensign Vira Sorrin, reporting as ordered, Sir." She said, as she snapped to the position of attention in front of the commodore's desk.
"Have a seat, Ensign." Carol suggested with a warm smile on her face. "I hope your ready to go, we have back log of shipment requests." Carol pointed out to her.
"Daddy always said, if your gonna jump in might as well go feet first so you can hit the ground running." Vira suggested to Carol. It was a metaphor, she would not really jump, but the message was clear enough. "I prefer it that way, nothing like learning under pressure sir." Vira pointed out to Carol. She did not mind a little stress, a great way to learn.
"Your father sounds like a risk taker, I like that. You wont get ahead if you dont try." Carol said, thinking that Vira's father was part brave and part wise and potentially part foolish, depending on how you look at it.
"That is a good way to describe him, I love them but he's a little too adventurous." Vira suggested to Carol. "But he also told me, hard work easily pays out tenfold. And I can promise you will always get my best."
"That's all I can ask of you, I have a feeling you're going to do great here." Carol said if she stood up, and walked over to the replicator. "Now that all the procedural things are done, let's get to know each other a little better. I'm going to replicate a coffee would you like something to drink?"
"Whatever you're having ma'am will be fine with me." Vira said with the warm smile, curious about what kind of drink exactly the Commodore was having. Partially she was doing this because she was curious in other part was in case you ever needed to butter up the Commodore she would know how to do it.
"That's very bold of you." Carol suggested, and she walked over to the replicator and replicated another copy with two things of Irish cream in it. Then she walked over and handed it to her before sitting back down in her own seat.
Vira took the drink, she was easy human coffee but she wasn't used to the Irish cream it was a little sweet but bitter against the roast of the coffee bean. "This is a very unique blend, ma'am." She said with the warm smile on her face that she took another ship.
"It's an acquired taste, but you'll get used to it if you truly want to drink it. I'm happy to replicate something else for you if you want." Carol suggested to her, giving her a way out if she wanted it.
"I'm good ma'am, I hope it's not too forward of me to say that I'm really looking forward to this assignment and I'm eager to get started." Vira suggested to Carol, she had heard her earlier saying that she get started right away but she literally wanted to get started right after this meeting. She knew the supplies were coming in as a spoke.
"I know you're straight out of the academy and this is overwhelming for you. But I'm going to need you to make sure that you're ready to go. It's one thing to tell me but it's another thing to actually do it I'm not trying to operate you because I'm being mean, I'm just stressing to you and important it is to your position is to this fleet yards. If you need additional personnel I'll get them for you, if you need additional support you need to let me know."
"I'm ready ma'am, I love challenge. Let me prove to you that I can handle this." Vira suggested has she hope Carol would let her get started soon.
"Well I'm glad to hear it, but don't get lost in your work either. You're going to need to find a good balance. But I'm not going to sit here harping at you all day about it. I do want to plan out a proper dinner with you so I can get to know you better after that you can be dismissed." Carol pointed out to her.
"I'll make myself available and I'll definitely take that under consideration about the finding a balance. First I just need to discover where I'm at in this whole process. But I promise you ma'am, I will find a good balance." Vira said, hoping she didn't sound too arrogant.
"I'm going to hold you to that, Ensign Sorrin." Carol suggested to her, she wasn't a perfectionist but she did want a smooth running Fleet yards. And the best way to keep that going was to have a good logistics team.
"Understand ma'am, and it's okay if you want to call me Vira." She said with the warm smile on her face.
"I appreciate that Vira, unless there's anything else dismissed."Carol said wanting to respect her time, and wanting a couple minutes before her next meeting to recoup and relax a little.
"Nothing else." Vira said if you snap to the position of attention did a direct about base and walked out of the room. She left with a big smile on her face, thinking she made it first good impression with her commanding officer. It was very nerve-wracking but she thinks she did a good job.
