VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home

Jaxon made its way to the office of Vice Admiral Sarah Martinez. You've been waiting for this meeting for almost two full days. Us rescheduled for this meeting, part of it was slightly annoyed by that but he also understood that there was a lot to do on the fleet yards and everybody was super swamped. He knew he needed to be patient but it was hard when you were eager to start your new assignment plus with the kids breathing down his neck about his new assignment he didn't know how to tell him that they had to be patient just as much as he did.
Earlier in the day Jaxon left Starbase Taneran, and was now on Port Royale. He wasted little time because he didn't want the Admiral to get busy again. He tapped on the intercom as he waited for her to let him in.
"Come in." Sarah called out. She had had a busy morning and just made herself a cup of tea. She knew it was her next appointment and she was glad to finally meet him. She looked up as he entered.
Jaxon did not waste time. He walked over to Sarah's desk. He snapped to the position of attention. "Lieutenant Jaxon Ruveer, reporting as ordered
" He said, not wanting to screw this meeting up.
"It is nice to meet you." Sarah said with a smile. "Please have a seat. If you would like a refreshment, there are some available on the side table. Please help yourself."
"I'm good but thank you ma'am, the kids and I were just having some snacks before this meeting. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me, I'm eager for my new assignment." Jax said, hoping he wasn't sounding like an idiot to her.
"I am sure you are." Sarah murmured with a smile. "How many children do you have?" She thought of her own, they could be a hand full but meant the world to her.
"Two children, I'm married to Lieutenant Commander Vox, she was the same as commanding officer to Starbase Taneran and to the USS Bushido." Jax said. He was very proud that she was the new research and development director for Valhalla Fleet yards.
Sarah smiled. "Yes. I do know who she is." She paused for a moment. "How are you feeling about your new assignment?" she asked him, curious.
"Good, I am looking forward to the assignment. And the family is very supportive. " Jaxon said, appreciating the fact that she asked the question. You didn't want to ask, but he also did want to ask at the same time. He wanted to know what his new assignment was going to be. He was eagerly waiting for the data pad that would include all the information for the new assignment. This was his first time as first officer, he was just one step away from commanding his own ship or station or both.
Sarah finally just go to the point. "You are being assigned to the USS Athena, Are you aware of who the captain is?" She hoped he did, Quinn was known by most as one of the exceptional commmanding officers in the fleet.
"Fleet Captain Quinn Ó Flannagáin, he's an incredible officer and Captain." Jaxon said, you only need the man by reputation he didn't know him personally.
"You are correct." Sarah smiled. "Serving as his executive officer will give you invaluable tools that can't be taught in a classroom. He has great knowledge and if you play it right you will gain so much from him."
"Does he know that I've been appointed?" Jaxon asked, hoping that he didn't have to break the news to the captain.
"Yes." Sarah nodded. "He is looking forward to meeting with you and having you work with him." She smiled then and handed him a padd. "Your instructions and first meeting with the captain are on there." Her eyes met his. "I would tell you not to be nervous but I remember my first assignment."
"Any tips for a first time XO?" Jaxon asked a little nervously. He hoped it was not inappropriate for him to ask.
"Believe in yourself." Sarah said with a smile. Know that you will make at least one mistake but if you trust in your instincts you will do fine."
"Not the response I was expecting, but thank you Admiral." Jaxon said, not sure how to feel about her response. He was hoping for something more personal, like a quirk.
Sarah smiled at him. "There are some who take to being a first officer seamlessly. I was not one of them and I don't want to mislead you into thinking you should be perfect day one."
"Well I hope to be one of those people." Jaxon said with a warm smile on his face. "I studied hard at the academy, and it sucked being sideline for the past year."
"All good things come to those who wait." Sarah said with a smile. "Once you settle into this position, you will see it was all worth it."
"I know you're right, admiral. From what I understand of Captain Ó Flannagáin, he is a fair and reasonable man." Jaxon said, as the two of them look at each other for a moment. "When, can I meet him?"
"Tomorrow morning." Sarah replied. "He is looking forward to meeting you as well." She could tell that the two of them would work well together.
"Understood Admiral, not trying to rush this meeting but I might dismissed. I kind of like to be on time to pick up my kids. Assuming that's okay." Jaxon asked, knowing he would have a lot of time to being back over to the station to pick them up from daycare.
"Of course." Sarah smiled "I have two of my own. I understand." Her eyes met his. "You will.do well, you are dismissed."
"Thank you Admiral" Jaxon snap to the position of attention, and then walked out of her office as a scene starts to fade away.
