Mission:
VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home
Location: Eagle's Antique Shop
Timeline: Current
Deezell, her husband Jaxon and their two, overly energetic children had finally arrived at Valhalla Fleet Yards and unpacking and sorting were still very much in progress and would be for a few days yet. Dee, on a quick break from starting her new role, decided to take a quick stroke. On one of the station information boards, something caught Dee's attention: an antiques shop.
Raekwon, the previous host, was an antiques dealer, art gallery owner and general rogue and seeing another shop brought back all of Rae's memories. She had to have a look. Once she had found the shop, she gingerly entered the premises and started to browse.
JJ had arrived at the station no more than a week before. He had been given a good location for the shop, holographic projectors had been installed (because they knew exactly how his other show was). It was fairly easy to set the shop up, only the desk and a couple of chairs where real, everything else were holograms. A display of the items that the Eagles had in stock. He had noticed some of the officers walking by, smiled and nodded as if seeing the antique shop anchored the feeling of home for them. On the old station the shop had provided many with unique and nice items from home that allowed them to remember where they came from.
Mr Eagle noticed the young woman walk inside, the spots were a dead give away. Trill, a fascinating species who could with the right circumstances have a great deal of old knowledge. "Can I help you?" he asked, standing to the side. He had learned that crowding people often didn't give off the best first impression.
“Hello, lovely shop you’ve got here. The holographic projection work is impressive. Raekwon never thought to use anything that elegant, and… well, let’s say the occasional breakage became an issue in his shop on Starbase 400."
"Anyway, I’m being rude. I’m Lieutenant Commander Deezell Vox, the new Director of R&D.”
JJ took a moment to look at the woman, he knew a Reakwon as a fellow lover of antiques. Vox at that. "I knew a Reakwon Vox once. Wasn't a young woman though." he commented as he looked at her lower belly, suspecting that she was carrying the Vox symbiote. "So, is there anything you would be interested in Commander Vox?" he gestured towards the displays.
"I wasn't was I. Tall, head shaved, stubbly and stubborn. As for what I'm interested in, well, I'm looking for a small sculpture to add to my quarters."
JJ arched an eyebrow, she confirmed his suspicion, but he dropped that subject and gestured to the first display room to follow him. Calmly he picked up the PADD that was hanging on the wall and added a few command. Instantly the room changed to thousands of statues, everything from statues the size of a finger to something several times larger than the room would normally be able contain. "What size are you looking for? Any specific maker? Species?"
" Well, nothing too tall, maybe 30-60 centimetres and slightly narrow, say around 10 centimeters. I'm partial to Vulcan, Bajoran and Klingon sculptures. "
JJ nodded and tapped in a few commands, most of the statues faded away and the room narrowed to display a few dozen statues on tables. "You can use the interface at the base of the statues to change the color of lighting and the direction. Warm or cold light, natural sunlight, you can move the light sources around. Do you know what kind of item it will be displayed upon?"
"Well, I'm still sorting out our family quarters and I have a shelf behind my desk and chair where I plan to display my collection of things so, most likely it will be displayed there. "
JJ nodded and produced a generic desk, chair and shelf. There where hundreds of designs but with more input it could be more accurate. "You can take any of the statues and places it on the display."
She glanced at the select. " I'm really drawn to this Vulcan sculpture. I think it will look well on my shelf, in the centre."
JJ nodded and placed the order to E.D.I. A chirp came from the padd. "It should be here in 17 hours." calmly he headed back to the desk to finalize the deal. "Press your thumb here to complete the deal." JJ said as he sat down.
Dee pressed her thumb on the pads. " Thank you very much. Just out of curiosity, how did you know Raekwon? Reputation or did you actually meet him? I don't recall you to be honest but then, as Rae, I met so many people in the antiques market."
"Did a few deals in the past." JJ responded as he placed a round device on the desk. "Take that and once it sounds off, your item is here and it will be teleported next to you."
"Cool." She picked up the round device. " Now that's pretty cool. " She exclaimed.
"It's just a beacon so that the transport can deliver your item. There are none of the items here, less risk for things getting broken. Just a way to keep the things safe."
" Of course. That makes perfect sense. Raekwon didn't have any of this in his store on Starbase 400. "Dee commented.
"I am probably more paranoid than he was. Old habits die hard." JJ shrugged.
"Yes. He was slightly more laid back on a lot of things. Some of which taught him to change his stance a few times." Dee replied.
"I would not know so I will take your word for that." Back in the day, he and his wife wasn't exactly working legally. But he had made sure that he kept that life away from the Eagle side of thins. Being in proximity of someone who had met him before he left that life behind made him be more guarded.
" Of course. Thank you for help today. I may visit again, as you seem to have such an amazing selection. " Dee replied.
"We welcome your business. When you have removed the item from the box, press that little button and place it in the box and it will be teleported back to the transport."
"Understood. Thanks again. " Dee replied, She headed out, back to work.
JJ watched her leave his establishment before he added a small note to his wife that someone they had traded antiques with in the past was on the station. It was a simple heads up.
