Mission: VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home
Location: Port Royale, Command Operations Center

Location: Port Royale, CO Command Operations Center

Major Savage waited for the lift to come to a halt, the moment the doors opened a flood of noise hit him. It was the standard stuff of command staff talking to their various departments, junior officers handling things while their CO worked on something and general strategic talking. The station was still quite new so Savage knew there were a million and one things to handle. For a moment he stood by the elevator and simply took everything in. This kind of chaos was something he had experienced many times in the field. A calm before the storm.

Carol was on the command operations center, of Port Royale. She was reviewing some duty logs, and talking to several junior officers. When she noticed Major Savage, approaching her position. It had been a short time since lunch. She barely had enough time to drop off lunch for Anastasia, and review some files and reports. She smiled at Major Savage as she said. "Punctual as ever." She said with a warm smile on her face, as she motioned towards her ready room door.

Calmly the major looked at his chronometer, it was one of those old-school mechanical clocks that was shielded from eternal energy. It also had several other features that had helped him over the years. "I believe I am slightly early ma'am. I'll wait if you have important things to handle." Calmly he entered parade rest and simply looked straight forward, not caring if him standing there as a statue could make people uncomfortable.

Carol spent the next several minutes, completing her daily tasks. She was almost enjoying watching him stand there like a statue, as the crew tried to ignore his overwhelming presence. After several minutes, she started to head towards her ready room. "Follow me, Major." Carol ordered still holding that smile. She felt that the crew learned how intimidating the Major could be.

Without a word, Major Savage left the parade at-ease stance and followed her, his heavy boots sounding just under the general sound of the OP's normal sounds.

Carol walked into the ready room, and walked over to the replicator. Without asking she replicated him another chilled water, and she ordered a cup of coffee for her with two Irish creamers in it. She walked over to her desk, and placed his glass in front of the desk. She had yet to sit down in the chair. She waited to see how he addressed this situation. She was still challenging him, it was starting to become a game between them.

He followed after her and once again took on the parade rest stance, his gray eyes followed her as she walked around and placed the water on the table. He did appreciate the gesture but judging from their previous interaction she was still testing him. He had had a lot of those officers who wanted to find flaws in his actions and words. However, this felt very different. It felt like she was trying to push him to be his best and he could appreciate that. "Major Markurious Savage reporting for duty." he said calm, there were no need to shout or bark. She didn't need his drill sergeant side, not yet.

Carol was impressed as she sat down. "Have a seat Major, I must admit that marines and their discipline to protocol is very commendable." She pointed out to him, as she took a seat, waiting for him to sit down. As she waited, she could smell the aroma from the coffee, entering her nose. The sweet smell stimulated her taste buds, before even taking a sip. She slowly sipped her coffee.

"I rather stand ma'am." he said, he could stand for days in parade rest. It was something that one learned fast in boot camp. He did eye the cold water for a moment, but simply taking it was an option. But this was her room and showing the respect of her station was more warranted. If she offered him to take the water, he would do so.

"I prefer you sit, Major." Carol said, as she stared at him. This was now a battle of will. She was not backing down. She dipped her coffee as she waited for him to cave in.

"Is that an order ma'am?" he asked, he was not in the mood for games but orders where orders.

"That's an order major, sit down." Carol said in a direct tone not confrontational and not emotional. She then grabbed a data pad from her desk and slid it across barely missing the cup of water. "Your operational orders."

Savage took a long moment not to move, it was very strategic. But he eventually sat down, calmly took up the PADD and looked at it. "I don't ride desks." he said, not bothering actually bothering reading more than the first few lines.

"A few seconds ago you didn't sit down either." Carol pointed out to him, and then she paused a moment for dramatic effect. After waiting a few seconds she continued on. "There is an old military tradition on Earth, the program was called the rapid response team. The concept was simple have a unit that could be ready to deploy at a moment's notice but also have the same unit be responsible for all incoming ships that came into the area hostile or friendly. Basically an oversight security Force and a special operations group all wrapped up into one. I want you to help me create this. I understand that you're not a desk person but you are the right person for this job. I believe you can help me create his backbones and a support structure." Carol said if she threw everything down at him at once, knowing that he would have to look at the data pad again.

"I am aware of the Rapid Response Team concept. First responders to any potential threats. More specialized than security and marines." he read the PADD. "A good start, but can be done better. Search and Rescue, Special Forces, Medical Response. Each one focused on a concept. Security and Marines are very broad."

"I can't think of a better person to create this in you." Carol said with this tone of sincerity in her voice. She paused for a moment then went on. "And before you argue with me that you think that a general needs to be doing this, I want you. I requested you, and I believe in you. The more importantly so it is Fleet Admiral Domingo Martinez."

Major Savage didn't understand why, this was a golden opportunity for any career officer. His file was littered with insubordinations and demotions. But also a plethora of medals and commendations. "I will need 2000 of the finest men and women to be trained my way. I will need a specialized station. I am talking Several units of hundreds meters large and several deck high holo-decks. Flight simulators that are connected to the holodeck. I am going to make sure they are pushed to the limit with the most realistic scenario possible, your navy pilots are welcome to train for atmospheric scenarios, unit cohesion. I will need the capacity to house every single one of them in higher quality quarters as well as bare minimum. The cafeteria needs to have real chefs and if we need to train them up to make the best caloric intake food for the men and women, then so be it. If I am going to push them to the limit and expect the best. I will reward them with the best as well."

"I'm going to attach another thousand to your count. Any support staff to go along with your specialized units. I don't want your units to carry on double duties and then all of a sudden have shortages throughout the fleet. I'm giving you your own small task group. And I have a station with your name on it all you have to do is give her a name. Another thing major I want you to be this team. And I gave you the same deal that I gave my R&D director, every 6 months up to the rank of Colonel I'm going to promote you as long as you meet certain metrics. In a years time, you could be a colonel. It's what we call a, fast track promotion system." Carol said to him in a sterile tone. She wasn't really debating this she was informing him.

"That was my next thought, have the navy at the station for support. I welcome any navy collaboration as well. As for the promotion, that isn't important. I will need a delivery system in the future, a ship specialized in rapid deployment, advanced anti cloak and shield technology."

"Then I would suggest talking to Lieutenant Commander Dezell Vox and Lieutenant Hunter, to get priority request fulfillment. Supplies and resources we have trained officers and train personnel we're coming up a little short on. I know you got this major. I know it's a tough place to be in, but I know you can do it." Carol said to him. She knew she was asking a lot of him but she also knew that he is capable of it. His service record to this point had proven that. Now all she had to do was work on his behavioral issues.

"I will submit a priority manifest Ma'am. It will be a hungry beast to feed, but once the pups are all grown up. I am confident they will supply you with some spectacular results." The major said, his mind already working on tactics, training regiments, logistics.

"Pups huh, well let's hope they grow into some ferocious mean lean war dogs." Carol pointed out hoping that he appreciated the metaphorism and that she used. She just wanted to be capable of handling any potential tasks that happened around the fleet yards or in the nearby sector.

"I would request this to start things off." Savage picked up the PADD, adding a number of specialized personnel. From 200 officers, 10 medical trained personnel, 1 counselor. "These will be the foundation of the rest. With these I will be able to build the core team that will handle the rest when the manpower is available." He placed the PADD on the table and pushed it towards the Commodore.

"I have a counselor in mind, but you may object to her. Sergeant Lilliana Valli." Carol said, as she handed him another pad with her information on it. She had already planned on assigning him a counselor, because she knew deep down that he had control issues, he needed to work on. She hoped that he would accept her assistance. She could order Major Savage to see Sergeant Valli, but she can not force him to open up to her.

Savage skimmed over her accolades, they where impressive for someone so young. "I will check her out when I have an office."

Carol wondered if he didn't remember her. But it was something that came up there in their conversation between her and the sergeant. She wasn't going to ruin the revelation. It was something they both had to discuss and figure out together. "Make sure that you do major. Do you have any other questions before I dismiss you?"

"Do you have my official orders ma'am? I want to get back to work."

"All the information on that data pad, your new orders your assignment. All your credentials have been updated. And there's a brand new station with your name on it sir. I'd recommend getting an acclimated as soon as possible." Carol told him in a sterile tone.

The Major looked over the info in PADD and waited. He had all he needed.

"Major there's one final thing on there, you need to name the station. If nothing else major, you're dismissed." Carol pointed out to him, if she stood up first, signaling that their conversation was done and if he had anything it was going to be a very last minute add-on to their conversation but she didn't expect him to have anything else to add.

Savage put on a rare smile. "Foramen Vulpis." he simply said.

"Excellent choice." Carol said, as the scene fades away.
