Mission:
VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home
Location: Reasearch and development department.
Timeline: -after the big meeting-
Savage was walking towards the R&D department of the station; he refused to talk to this civilian who was advised. Why would he let someone outside Starfleet gain more than he clearly had? His pace was still the same as always, with a calm and precise cadence. He entered through the large doors that led to the department that handled research and developing new things.
Deezell was touring around her department, getting to know her team, when the Major entered the large, spacious room. Dee turned as she heard the doors open.
"Major Savage, welcome to R&D. How can we help you?"
The older man looked around. "Just arrived as well, Commander?" he asked calmly. He was expecting organised chaos. He knew the smart guy on his team always had a way to leave bits and baubles all over the place.
"Yes. My family and I arrived only a few days ago. Does it show?" she smiled.
"It's too clean. My experience when it comes to the smart kind is that they spread their doohickeys and doodahs all over the place. I see none of that here. It's too clean." Salvage said.
Dee smiled. She hadn't heard the terms doohickeys and doohahs for some time. In fact, it hadn't been since her previous host, Raekwon, when he was watching engineers fix power problems in his shop on the promenade on Starbase 400.
"Well, we really haven't got started just yet. So, our doohickeys and doodahs are in containers. Rest assured, things will get untidy very soon. So, what can we help you with?" Dee asked.
Savage took a long look around the room again. "I need a tactical suit for breaching hulls from space." Savage said. "Can't be to bulky."
" I see. We have something we are working on which is sort of like that. It's a heavy duty suit with multiple mission tools that can be attached to it with an independent power source purely for the tools so as not to affect life support."
She picked up a padd, bringing up the schematics, she passed it over to the Major.
Savage cocked an eyebrow. "Sounds bulky."
" It is a prototype. Are you looking for something that's entire purpose is to allow a sole occupant to breach the hull of a starship from space? Does it need any other capabilities other than the obvious, breaching and keeping it's occupant alive? ". Dee asked.
"Ideally, one person with either breach capacity and silent entry capacity. A hull cutting tool and a computer hacking tool. Carry a few shaped charges for the breaching."
" Leave it with us. I'm sure we could adapt the prototype to your requirements. When do you need it for?"
"I have no need for it right now. But I would like a few prototypes for training and working out kinks. I still don't have my station yet for what I am planing."
" Okay. We will get to work on it and send you updates as we make progress. How does that sound?"
"Very good..." the major said as he rubbed the stubble on his chin. "I would like you to design something like a wrist mounted scanner." he gestured to his left arm near the wrist, making his fingers move as he was typing something on a screen there. "Something that acts like a portable computer and tricorder. Something solid enough to handle rough environments, the display needs to be able to change color and brightness. I would like a medical version of it as well."
" I like the sound of this." Dee replied taking notes, watching his hand gestures closely.
" Needs to be relatively lightweight and not too bulky but with a screen that can show relevant information clearly. Leave it with us. "
"The range should be around ten meters. That should cut down the weight. If we need wider information we can use a standard tricorder."
"That would have been my next question, it's scanning range. Indeed 10 meters will cut down on the weight of the device." Dee commented.
Savage nodded. "Is it possible to make it have a passive mode, maybe motion sensor, audio detection? Could work as an early warning system."
"Absolutely. It can be designed to monitor for motion within a 10 meter radius and alert if anything detected. We could even add a feature that lets multiple devices link together to extend the range."
"That would be satisfactory." Savage said.
" Excellent, I will get my team right onto this. "
"Good. How long do you expect it to take?"
"Are you on a tight deadline for this? I believe we can get a prototype in a couple of months." Dee replied.
"There is no real time crunch, but the sooner they are developed, the sooner the force I am building will be ready. We can use standard equipment. But I hope you will not be sloppy..."
"Sloppy? Absolutely not. My team are precision designers and engineers. On my last assignment, as the Assistant Chief Engineer for Starbase 400, I practically rebuilt a Kestral Fighter from a wreck, re-fabricating a lot of its parts."
"I will trust you then," Savage said.
"Trust is earned, so we will do our very best for you and let's take it from there. " Deezell replied.
"Very well then," Savage said before turning to head to his next stop.
"Thanks for coming" she replied as he left.
