Mission:
VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home
Location: Starbase Taneran, Dee's Office
Timeline: Current
The scene opens in the large open-plan offices of the research and development teams. It's late at night, well past 23:00 hours. Normally it would be quiet, but we can hear muffled music in the distance. We walk through the open space between the desks on both sides. The music, still muffled, is somewhat louder, and now we can make out operatic singing. The music is coming from behind the large doors of the office of Deezell Vox.
The scene fades out and back in, and now we are a fly on the wall in her office. Dee is at her desk when she knows she should be with her husband and children, but her work has distracted her from the passage of time. She's staring, transfixed, at her large display, clutching her large cup of coffee.
On her screen, the blueprints of the Devastator Cannon. Instead of finishing for the day, several hours ago, she had decided that there must be a way to make the cannon more streamlined so it would fit better to the hull of its host vessel. She was on her eighth design, and yet she remained dissatisfied. There was nothing wrong with the original design or any of the eight after it, but she knew that deep down she was, once again, distracting herself from one thing: Jurlan.
The door to her office rang; it was still late into the night. Two little kids were by his side as they waited for Dee to respond. Jaxon waited for Dee to tell them to come in. Both kids were scared; they wanted their mother. They were not used to her being out so late. And Jaxon tried to reassure them that she was fine. But they wanted to see for themselves.
"Yes, come in", she shouted over the music, taking a large gulp from her coffee. The doors opened. Velo and Lara ran into her office with Jaxon, walking in behind them. They came around to her behind her desk.
Velo put his hand on his mom's arm "Why are you not home, Mom? We stayed up waiting for you. Daddy made us our dinner."
"Stayed up? Dinner?" She looked confused. "Computer, what is the time?"
{The current time is 23:46 hours}, the computer announced.
Dee's face dropped. "Oh my, I am so sorry. I got so distracted with my work." She didn't know what to say or do at the moment. She looked at Jaxon, seeking help, but he looked somewhat worried and unhappy with her.
"I was hoping to spend time with you. I leave in the morning with the Athena. We're going after Jurlan." Jaxon suggested, as he and the kids walked over to her. Velo had already reached out for their mother.
"Qu'vatlh" Dee exclaimed. She used the Klingon expletive for 'a hundred tasks, ' a stronger exclamation of frustration than ghay'cha, so that her children didn't hear their mother swearing, but Jaxon knew exactly what she said.
"I am so sorry, my love. " She logged off her computer. "What can we do now, with the time we have before you go after that, that man?" she asked, hugging Velo and Lara, who were now by her side.
"It's late now, a little late. But maybe we can have fort night, make one in the living room, before we head to bed." Jaxon suggested to the kids and to his lovely wife.
" Wonderful idea. Let's do that. Have a few snacks under the fort and maybe tell a story." Dee replied. As they left her office, she leaned to whisper in Jaxon's ear.
"Oh I so love you. I'm sorry about this.*
"When I come back, and I am coming back. You can make it up to me." Jaxon said, as he whispered back into her ear, watching both kids practically sprinting down the corridors. They were eager to build a fort.
She smiled. She whispered back. " I will let you tie me up, and do whatever you wish with me. " She said, winking.
Jaxon smiled, but thought to himself, this woman is pure evil. He grinned as he imagined tying her up. Then he felt a little tug on his arm from his little girl, Lara. She wanted to be carried. She was starting to get older. Given the fact that it was late at night, he decided to cave in and pick Lara up. "Sorry, hun, I would have carried you, but Lara beat you to it," Jaxon said with a big teasing grin on his face.
"I am sure you will have ample opportunities to carry me in your strong arms very soon." She smiled.
"I'm going to hold you to that promise." Jaxon said with a loving smirk on his face.

Lara wiggles in his arms. She was tired and excited all in one bundle. "Someone is a little antsy. You ready to build a fort, pumpkin?

The family left her office, heading back to their quarters to build a fort from duvets, pillows and chairs. In less than 30 minutes, they had all arrived in their quarters, changed into their pajamas, dimmed the lights to a softer glow and were now sitting underneath a fort made from the duvets from the master bedroom and Velo and Lara's room. They sat around a bowl of potato chips and a small lantern as Dee began....
"In the old times, when wishing still helped..."
Our view moved backwards out of the fort; we can now see it in the dimly lit quarters with the shadows of the family inside its fabric walls.
Jaxon grinned as he grabbed a potato chip. His pajamas matched the families. "This is going to be a good story, I can tell." The four them settled in for the night, as the scene starts to fade away.
