Mission:
VFY S1, E2: Klingon Security
Location: Port Royale, Various
Timeline: January 17, 2397, 1050 Hrs
Location: Klingon Bird-of-Prey B'Moth,
T'Rhe: Just thought I'd start a boarding post. Do you mind if she assists T'Rhe in Security? Also, I figure the Klingons could owe T'Rhe and/or K'Taal a favor, so that's why I wanted them arriving on a bird-of-prey... Besides, Klingons are fun. Feel free to change anything I've written, particularly with the lead-in to the starbase portion and the italics I put in to represent the characters speaking Klingon.
Starbase Port Royale, Commander's Office
T'Rhe stood with K'Taal and Koloth on the transporter pad of the B'Moth. She stared at the two members of her family present. "Ready for this?" she asked them.
"Yes---I've missed being with both of you," was Koloth's response.
"You realize this will probably only be temporary--you do need to find a job, after all." K'taal's tone was mild, though she tried to keep any real bite out of her voice.
"I know, I know. I've almost got the manuscript typed."
"Leave it to you to manually beat out that on paper," T'Rhe rejoined, laughing. "You're sure you've got the Klingon right?"
K'Taal rolled her eyes. "You trust me, right?" she asked her wife.
"Of course I do... Oh, you checked it, didn't you."
Their banter was cut off by the voice of the captain coming over the comm. "Bridge to Commander T'Rhe and to K'Taal. We are approaching Starbase Port Royale. Please prepare to transport aboard."
"Acknowledged, Captain Gradok," was T'Rhe's reply.
The stars outside the viewport slowed as the Klingon birdd-of-prey dropped out of warp. T'Rhe, gazing at the station, couldn't help but be impressed. The place was immense, nearly five times the size of her last starship posting. "Well, here we go," she said, quietly.
Location: Starbase Port Royale, Operations
"Commodore," came a crewman's voice, "Klingon bird-of-prey dropping out of warp."
"Hail the B'Moth, Klingon Warship B'Moth, we are ready to receive transport." Domingo said with a smile on his face as he walked over to the transporter pad on the operations deck. He waited for the two Klingons to be beamed over to the station.
"Aye sir." Said a low ranking communications officer. After a brief moment he responded. "They are beaming them over now, Commodore."
After the three beamed aboard, Domingo reached out his hand to offer a a Klingon hand shake. "How was your trip Commander?" He asked. He was curious what life was like on a Klingon warship. That inquiry would have to wait for another day. There was a lot to do, and Security needed its co immediately.
T'Rhe took the human's proffered hand. "Well enough, Commodore... Lieutenant Commander T'Rhe, reporting for duty... Permission to come aboard?"
"Granted Commander," Said Domingo, and he thought to himself, that they had a lot to discuss. Before they could get into all of that, they had to get through protocols and niceties. Domingo looked over to the mysterious klingon woman standing next to her.
The woman smiled. "Thank you... Introductions--my wife, and my assistant in Security, Lieutenant K'Taal. If you want details on life on a Klingon ship, talk to her. They owed her a favor... Our son, Koloth. I believe I should have a request for quarters in here somewhere... Ah, here we go." She passed Martinez a PADD.
Domingo glanced over at the pad, and put his finger print verification on it. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant, I have doubt that Security will have their hands full. I am not sure if I should welcoming you or apologizing ahead of time. " He said with a big grin on his face. It was meant as a joke, he hoped she had a sense of humor.
K’Taal laughed, her rich alto rolling out across Ops. “Why am I always mistaken for the one in charge? Regardless, we're both glad to be here."
"Quite." T'Rhe spoke up. "Perhaps we should move this to your office?"
“Good idea Commander, follow me please.” Domingo said, as he motioned for T’Rhe to follow him.
Koloth, ignored up to this point, started working his way towards the lift. "I'll get our luggage sorted," he said quietly. He left, cane rattling a bit on the deck plating.
Location: Starbase Port Royale, Commodore's Office
As soon as the three officers had sat, T'Rhe began, "Commodore, I'm ready to get started when you are. I'm curious, who is your executive officer, and if our Chief Diplomatic Officer has arrived, who that would be as well? I find it beneficial to speak to those two people as soon as possible upon arrival."
Domingo leaned back in his chair for a moment. "Our First officer is Captain Hadir Prenar and our Chief Diplomatic Officer is Sarah Gillman-Sanchez. He said, in a fast motion with his words. "Do you know either officer?" Domingo asked, trying to see, how much back story to give their new chief of Security Operations.
"Hmmm, Prenar... That's Cardassian if I'm not much mistaken..." A brief, sour look passed across T'Rhe's face. "Very well... As to the other... She wouldn't be married to former Councilman Gillman, would she?"
"One in the same and a good friend of mine. We grew up together on Earth. Do you know her or her Husband?" Domingo asked, wondering if he knew her by reputation or if he knew her personally. For the moment, he ignored the cardassian name comment.
"Reputation only... I've been following the case, but I'll not judge her for her husband's actions... I'll just need to meet with her to discuss security arrangements for any diplomatic meetings we hold here--I feel it best if we have a good working relationship before anything moves forward."
"I can handle that, if you like?" K'Taal put in.
T'Rhe smiled at her. "You're reminding me to delegate, aren't you?"
"Maybe." K'Taal's tone was light, but there was a serious undertone in it as well.
"It's a good idea, and yes my first officer is a Cardassian, given the fact we are really close to Cardassian territory it makes sense, and Captain Prenar is one hell of an officer, he has earned his pips." Domingo said, not sure if he was going to get some resistance. The Klingons fought the Cardassians, less than a decade ago, during the Dominion War. He hoped that K'Taal had no issues with it. Seeing how her boss was also part-Cardassian, he had a feeling that K'Taal had no issues with it. But if she did, this would be the place to address it.
"I can work with him," T'Rhe replied. "However, you might wish to look at my file, specifically regarding my parentage... That will explain much... I don't like Cardassians much, but I've attempted to bury outright dislike... It made the occupation of Cardassia significantly better... They do have some excellent food, which helps."
"I happen to like Cardassians--at least , as far as anyone can," K'Taal chimed in. "My time in the Klingon Defense Force was spent fighting the Dominion... Mostly."
"Glad to hear it, because I want Security Operations to assist in overseeing security detail and protection assignments to the Ambassadors. When in a crisis situation, I want to have you both to make sure they are safe and secure. I was hoping you both would work with the ambassadors and the marines on this station, that will be assigned to watch them on a regular basis. You both will have enough on your plate, to tend to any diplomats petty needs, well let their attache's and the marines, handle those requests." Domingo said, as he sat back in his chair, to see how they were going to respond.
"Not a problem... I'm somewhat familiar with how diplomats can be, having worked on Earth."
"And I've spent the past years dealing with Klingons... Diplomats will be relaxing," K'Taal responded with a small self-deprecating laugh.
"I am pretty sure that was a daunting task, all in its own. But Have you ever worked with a Cardassian Delegate? Let me put it to you this way, they make the Tellarite delegation, looked civilized in a heated debate. I know your Cardassian background will be helpful, but the council is a fragile alliance, it race having its own agenda on the table. And the Cardassians are good at playing the game, and riling up everyone in the wake. No doubt the esteemed Ambassador will have issue with Cardassian Station XO and a Cardassian security officer on the station. He will see you both as a front to his agenda, how do I know this, he already told me so." Domingo said. "I know you know your people, but politics is another game all in its own. On Earth everyone had to play by the rules, out here in the wild frontier, it will be harder to control the situation. Commander Sanchez and myself will find our footing, but until then, expect security to be busy."
"I think we can handle it, and if the ambassador makes an issue of it, I'll mention my being a citizen of United Earth... And if he keeps making trouble, I'll mention my father." A predatory grin flashed across her face for the barest of moments. "That seems to strike fear into the hearts of most Cardassians--at least he's good for some things."
K'Taal put a hand on her wife's shoulder in silent support.
"Will table the marine topic for the moment, but we will re address it Commander, right now get settled in on the station. Enjoy this little down time. We have a busy day tomorrow, and I have a lot of interviews and meetings to get through, we will come back to the topic, the first officer is insisting we have extra support. I am going to back him on this call, but like I said, we are going to table this for now. Please take some time to settle in, go spend time together, work will still be here in the morning." Said Domingo as he stood up, and prepared to walk the two ladies out of the room.
"I'm planning on having Lieutenant K'Taal meet with Commander Sanchez tomorrow, so we can get her opinion on the subject..." The two rose, snapped off joint salutes and T'Rhe asked, "Are we dismissed, Sir?"
"Dismissed." Domingo said, walking over to the door. He could understand Commander's T'Rhe's concern with a big marine presence. But at the moment, Captain Prenar, believed all the support they could get, would be beneficial.
"Thank you," K'Taal spoke for both of them. As they turned to go, T'Rhe put a hand on K'Taal's arm and turned back.
"Commodore, when we have some availability, I'd like to invite the senior staff around to our quarters for a meal. I was a professional chef in my past life, and this is something I at least offer when I'm in a position to do so at a new posting."
"We will have a staff meeting coming up real soon, I will schedule in you in towards the end of the meeting to make that offer." Count me in. Domingo said with a big grin on his face. He wanted to get to know all of his senior staff, and what a better way, then sharing a meal together.
