1,801 words; about a 9 minute read

Mission: VFY S9, E1: We Have A Home
Location: Deezell and Jaxon's Quarters
Timeline: Current

After their children had gone to bed, Dee and Jaxon came back into the lounge area of their quarters. Dee approached a chair to sit, but at the last moment, turned and went over to the replicator.

"Double Whiskey, straight, no ice," she requested. A glass with a generous measure of whiskey materialised. Taking the glass, she went back to the chair and finally sat down. She held the glass in both hands, gently swirling the liquid as she gazed into the glass. Looking over to Jaxon, who had already sat in an adjacent chair, she sighed.

"There is something about my past that I’ve never shared with you. In truth, almost no one knows about it except the few people who were there. It’s not something I’m proud of; in fact, I despise it. The only reason I can live with it is that, at the time, it kept me safe and alive.

I’ve hidden it from many people, including our families, because I’ve always feared how they might see me if they knew. And I’ll be honest: I’m scared you might think less of me, too."

"Seems like you're dancing around what you have to tell me. I can promise you that I'll have an open heart, and won't think rationally. But without knowing what it is it's hard for me to really determine, how I'll respond to the situation." Jaxon pointed out to Dee. He wondered what was eating her up inside.

She took a big sip from her whiskey. She placed the glass onto the nearest table, got herself comfortable in her chair and began.

" When I first arrived on Starbase 400, as a fresh young Ensign who had just been joined with a symbiont with any original intent of becoming an initiate and therefore no training, I had to deal with a few of Raekwon's associates from time to time. It is one particular individual that this whole, situation, is the result of. Jurlan Topsinenggi.

A known dealer in rare artifacts, treasures and other questionable items. Raekwon, owed him a favour and you would think that, said favour would be null and void upon Raekwon's death, but not for Jurlan. As an engineer, I was assigned to help repair Jurlan's ship, the Red Kite. This is when he approached me about the favour, which I said had nothing to do with me as I was Deezell and not Raekwon. Oh, he didn't like my defiance. Very soon I was surrounded by four very large, scary looking men."

She paused for a sip of her drink.

"So, the favour, which was entirely at the discretion of Jurlan of course, as Rae had said he'd help him out anyway he could next time he needed it. He had a deal to make with a rival gang and needed something pretty on his arm to help wing things in his favour, and that was me. What I had to wear, barely left anything to the imagination and that wasn't the worst part of it. Unknown to me, till I found out moments before hand, he had promised his rival that he would have "fun" with me as part of the deal. So I was stuck on his ship, no help from anyone, and the only way to get off that ship was to help complete the deal. "

She looked at the floor. Trying not to sob.

"What happened to Jurlan? He needs to pay for his crimes?" Jaxon asked, tring to remain level headed. It was hard to do, but he did not like the idea that this Jurlan guy forced her to do things. What was strange to Jaxon was Rae was a guy not a girl when the deal was made. How did he know, Dee would be sacrificed for this deal.

" I don't know where he is now. Rumours have circulated suggesting he's dead, killed in a skirmish with a rival gang. Probably the same one, as those two never liked each other. "

"What can you tell me about the gang, we can't bring him to justice maybe we can bring the gang to justice." Jaxon suggested to Dee, he felt that somebody needed to pay for what they had done to her.

"The Gang went by the name of the Vleeb Brotherhood. Their ship, the Red Kite, is an aging Ju'day class cargo ship, refitted with various weapons and defences. It's similar to those used by the Marquis. I haven't kept tabs on Jurlan or his gang to be honest. I've just heard rumours. I'm sorry I kept this from you. "

"Why didn't Admiral Bremer go after him?" Jaxon asked, he knew the Admiral was a man of Honor. So he was curious why the Admiral let him go and why Dee, hadn't said anything up to now. He couldn't help but wonder if she had a lead on him.

"I never reported the incident to anyone. I simply logged in my report of the repairs I did to their ship and the extended stay to test other updates. "

"Why, wouldn't you report it? I'm sorry sweetheart but that's crazy." Jaxon said, feeling a little guilty for saying that to his wife, and to a victim. But he couldn't for the life of him understand why she would bury it and let him get away with it.

"I felt and I still feel ashamed of what I did and I didn't want anyone else to know. I was a young Ensign back then. What would they have thought of me. The only reason I'm telling you is I decided I can't keep it hidden anymore. Besides, if I open up about it, then it's less likely someone could use it against me. "

"I'm not sure how somebody can use that against you, but I don't want to undermine what you went through," Jaxon said, thank you for yourself. There's no way he could get away with this.

"There are some seriously dodgy people in the universe, and they will use any information they can get to their advantage if they can. I know that look on your face; you are planning to go after Jurlan. Please don't get yourself killed."

"I want too, but I have no idea where to start. I will contact Starfleet Intelligence. Let's see what they say first. Then I need to tell my captain." Jaxon said, with a concerned look on his face. He wanted to hunt the man down and kill him for what he did, but he was a man with a consciousness and could not do it.

She thought for a moment. "Dahren IV, might be a good starting point."

Jaxon wondered if she had been trying to track him down as well. "I will let Starfleet Intelligence know that, when I put in my request."

"The Red Kite was there roughly five days ago. Where she went next, I've not been able to find out. But, there is a good chance someone on Dahren IV might know. "

"So you have been trying to find him as well." Jaxon said to her with a soft caring voice.

"I have. The Red Kite isn't an easy ship to track. They tend to disguise their true destination using random stopping points on route. "

Dee commented.

"It's a ship not a faction, you are right that will make it complicated to track." Jaxon said, not letting this new information keep him from trying.

She finishes her whiskey, putting the empty glass on the table.

" I'm going to take a shower. Just talking about this incident, albeit in the past, makes me feel dirty. "

"We will find him, and he will pay for what he has done." I said as I pulled her in close for a hug. Hoping that she wouldn't reject My embrace. But he wouldn't be surprised if she did, cuz it was painful to relive traumatic experiences and he wouldn't take it personally.

She embraced him, holding him tightly as she sobbed.

" I'm so sorry about all of this. "

"Why are you apologizing?" Jaxon said, as he gave her a deep hug.

"I should have told you about this sooner and not kept it to myself. "

"I know this had to be hard for you, and I know you had your reasons for keeping it in. Just glad you felt comfortable enough to finally share it with me." Jaxon said with a loving an soothing voice.

"It was eating away at me and I knew the longer I held back, the worse things could become. I do feel a sense of relief that I've finally let go. "

She replied.

"If you ever need someone to talk to you, I heard Lieutenant Wyse, comes highly recommended." Jaxon suggested, he didn't know much about her but her reputation was already building on Port Royale. All he knew about her was, that she was a foreign exchange officer.

" Actually I have been talking to her and she gave me the confidence to talk to you. I really was fearful of what you might think of me. "

I hug her even tighter, "I'm glad she did, not alone my love. We'll get through this." Jaxon said to her, with conviction in his voice.

She pulled briefly from him. She her hands gently to the sides of his handsome face and gave him a long passionate kiss on his lips.

He returned her passion for several moments, the two of their lips were locked as passion poured out between them. In this moment time seemed to stand still. No words were needed, to express their love for one another and the frustration that they both felt over the cowardly Acts of the Red Kite and her crew especially her captain.

"We're going to get them, all of them! They can't get away with this." Jaxon said to her, will take caring and compassionate tone as he slowly pulled away from her. Starfleet has been to passive over the last couple years. Now I see the frustration that Admiral Bremer must have experienced all those years. Knowing that Starfleet was turning in on herself and becoming a Pacific society, while the great atrocities of the universe Rose all around us. I'm grateful the Admiral Martinez and Commodore Hogan share similar traits to Admiral Bremer." Jaxon said with frustration but not at his wife but at the situation.

"They won't get away with it, not with you leading the charge, my love. But now I think it's time we got to bed. I want to hold you all night."

Jaxon picks her up, and whisks her into the bedroom with purpose. He slowly leans down and kisses her as they both gently fall into the bed.
